Governor should fight for his plan
When Governor Haslam first introduced his Insure Tennessee proposal he said, “My faith doesn’t allow me to walk on the other side of the road and ignore a need that can be met – particularly in this case, when the need is Tennesseans who have life-threatening situations without access to healthcare.”
I believe it’s time for Governor Haslam to have the courage to politically fight to have a bill passed and signed that will help those he spoke about so passionately.
Three things that I think he could do are: First, call out publicly the ideologue senators in his own party who have blocked his proposals (most of whom enjoy state sponsored insurance themselves). Second, the governor should publicly stand with the supporters (advocates and protestors) of his plan. Third, the governor should make weeklong tours of the state promoting his plan – meetings, rallies, and town halls, perhaps call it an insure Tennessee week campaign.
It’s time for Governor Haslam to fight for his plan so that some of our most vulnerable fellow Tennesseans receive the help they so desperately need.
