As with so much of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the simple answer is “just apply online!”
But, all the same, the answer is there are several ways to apply for coverage and that’s the important thing.
You can apply for TennCare at www.healthcare.gov, but we all know that you may not be prepared to go through the whole application process.
Need Help Applying for TennCare?
There are at least three ways that you can get help:
- You can go to any DHS office in any of Tennessee’s 95 counties. A trained staff person will help you apply. Over 350 state employees are trained to help you find the DHS office in your county.
- You can get help from HealthTN.com or even call us at (615) 541-4257.
- You can also call 1-800-318-2596 to apply directly over the phone.
If you have a disability, someone can even come to your house to help you apply for TennCare. Just call your local Area Agency on Aging and Disability (AAAD) at 1-866-836-6678.
The real catch in all this is to make sure you have all your ducks in a row. Don’t just pick up the phone and start dialing for dollars. Get out your tax return, get any healthcare documentation, SSI benefits statements, anything you think will help – this is, of course, why we believe that getting a real person involved in a great idea, because you don’t do this for living, we do!
Just an importantly, you may simply make too much money to qualify for TennCare. Not a problem! By having HealthTN.com help you through the process, we’ll be able to recommend the policy and coverage that makes the most sense for you and your family. There are literally dozens of supplemental tools out there that the average Tennessean doesn’t know about – or how to access – and we do. Let us keep helping you and our state to get the right insurance – that is our whole job!
