Health Insurance That Rewards Your Healthy Habits

Anastasia Iliou Uncategorized, Wellness, Fitness, and Nutrition

More and more insurers are forming programs that reward beneficiaries that participate in healthy habits and behaviors. New technology allows companies (with your permission) to track what you eat, how much you exercise, your weight, and more. How can they do this?

Grocery Tracking

While this trend hasn’t completely caught on the United States yet, one Canadian company is gaining clients and improving people’s health by pricing according to healthy eating. Manulife Financial provides beneficiaries with a card that they can scan when they purchase groceries. The healthier the groceries are that they buy, the bigger discount they can receive on their health insurance. Discounts can reach up to $50/month or $600/year!

Carrier Incentives

Some major carriers, like UHC and Cigna, offer discounts through gyms and exercise programs. They may give you incentives like a gym membership that’s only free if you use it, or forms that you can fill out at your gym to prove that you went. Others offer discounts for getting flu shots, getting blood tests, and even helping your community by donating blood.

Company Benefits

Some employers are now offering health insurance discounts or extra money to pay for it if employees are willing to join a gym, have weigh-ins, attend health coaching, and more. Try suggesting this to your company!

If you’re not already taking advantage of healthy habits benefits, now is the time to see if it is something that your plan offers. If you need help reviewing your benefits or need help choosing a new plan, call HealthTN today at 615-541-4257.
